1.2.4.3. SCA Deployment vía SUM

SUM (Software Update Manager) is a multipurpose tool that supports several processes, such as performing a version update and installing improvement packages among other things. As such, SUM can be used to implement your SCA file.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure that the Software Update Manager is downloaded and available in your SAP NetWeaver AS Java. SUM is part of the Software Logistics Toolset delivery and is available for download from http://service.sap.com/sltoolset.
  • Before you run and use the SUM, you must complete all the preparation and planning actions required in the SUM User's Guide.
  • Make sure that the SAP system and its database have been started.
  • The appropriate SCA file has been downloaded.

SUM requires SAP kernel 7.21 or higher for target version
The Software Update Manager requires the target release kernel 7.21 or higher for all platforms.
We recommend that you always check before you start the upgrade or upgrade if there is a newer version of the SAP kernel available in the SAP support portal and download it to the download directory. The lower target release kernel versions are no longer supported and may result in an error during the upgrade or update.

Install or upgrade the SAP Host Agent in the minimum supported version
SAP Host Agent Is a tool for monitoring and controlling SAP instances and non-SAP instances, operating systems and databases. Ensure that at least the minimum version of the corresponding SAP Host Agent is present on your system. Regardless of your stack type, use at least the following versions: SAP Host Agent 7.20 version 203 (or higher) or SAP Host Agent 7.21 version 3 (or higher).
We recommend that you always use the latest version in the SAP software download corner at http://support.sap.com/swdc. For additional information, such as depreciation of the lower versions, see SAP Note 2130510.

Procedure

  • Copy your sca file to an empty directory.
  • In SUM, select the Manually Prepared directory as the target version definition and browse to the directory where you placed your sca file.
  • Continue with the upgrade process. For more information, see Updating SAP systems using the Software Update Manager guide in the section on Installing and Updating InformationUpgrade and Updating Guides on the SAP NetWeaver Help Portal page 7.4: http://help.sap.com/nw74
  • After you deploy the SCA file, restart the instance by using the SAP MMC.
